Position Description

Calhoun Construction Services, Inc. is a growing commercial general contractor located in Louisville, KY. Calhoun is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Project Engineer. Project Engineers work alongside and will be mentored by our knowledgeable and highly experienced Project Managers. Qualified candidates will possess experience in managing all facets of project management (budget, schedule, procurement, quality & risk) projects including planning, design, construction, occupancy and closeout.

 

Job Duties:

  1. Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons
  2. Implement the pre-construction quality plan
  3. Facilitates project meetings
  4. Obtain and maintain all necessary construction permits
  5. Work with Project Manager for fee payments or recurring permit expenses
  6. Develop and maintain: Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, Non-Conformance Report
  7. Manage, create, and distribute contract documents
  8. Establish handling procedures for electronic documents, including Request for Information (RFI) and correspondence
  9. Incorporate all processes and procedures that support the project closeout phase
  10. Manage all aspects of testing and inspection processes for the construction quality management program
  11. Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and any off-site testing procedures
  12. Notify the Project Manager and Superintendent promptly of test results or inspection items that do not conform to contract requirements
  13. Coordinate the packaging, manage, track, review and processing of submittals
  14. Set up submittal register in accordance with project specifications
  15. Obtain the customer/architect’s approval for field changes
  16. Expedite submittals to ensure material deliveries are in sync with the project schedule
  17. Communicate details and requirements for the submittal process to subcontractors and suppliers,
  18. Provide periodic updates of the submittal register to the customer or architect
  19. Coordinate details of various subcontractors, including verifying insurance, preparing paperwork, and requesting final payment from Finance
  20. Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders
  21. Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-build construction documents
  22. Incorporate subcontractor as-built documentation in the procedures for revising or updating contract documents
  23. Determine alternative work methods as needed
  24. Coordinate safety and compliance for all team member
  25. Maintain schedule of timelines and follow through until completion
  26. Must maintain an extremely professional working relationship with clients, subcontractors, and peers
  27. Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements

 

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS/BEng/BArch) from College or University in a technical area of study or equivalent training and experience
  2. Demonstrates capability to read, understand and apply standard to moderately complex documents affecting projects, including but not limited to: agreements/contracts, leases, work letters, project charters, surveys and drawings
  3. Computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level;
  4. Knowledge of construction processes and terminology
  5. Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents
  6. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills
  7. Ability to read and understand blueprints
  8. Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  9. Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  10. Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  11. Proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills
  12. Excellent communication skills; both internal and external
  13. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  14. LEED AP preferred, but not required
  15. Full time schedule; weekends as needed
