Title: Commercial Service Technician
Department: Service
Reports To: Service Manager
Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (occasional weekends and evenings as required)
Job Summary
The Commercial Service Technician plays a vital role in the installation, startup, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems in commercial and industrial settings. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, mechanical aptitude, and strong customer service skills. Technicians will work on-site, diagnosing issues, conducting system tests, and ensuring optimal system performance.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform startup, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment, including refrigeration, electrical, and air distribution systems.
  • Diagnose system faults, conduct inspections, and complete necessary repairs while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Maintain professional interactions with mechanical contractors, engineers, and clients, providing expert guidance on system performance and maintenance best practices.
  • Travel to job sites to perform service tasks as dispatched, documenting work progress and communicating updates to the service team.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of service reports, work order logs, and maintenance records to support operational efficiency.
  • Conduct preliminary air balancing diagnostics using velometers.
  • Operate company-provided vehicles, tools, and lifts safely and responsibly.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling License (certification required).
  • Ability to safely operate scissors lifts, genie lifts, and work on extension/step ladders.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills to effectively explain system functionality and solutions to clients.
  • Willingness to attend manufacturer training classes to expand knowledge and expertise.
Additional Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to design, install, and troubleshoot low-voltage wiring for HVAC systems.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, blueprints, and system schematics to develop accurate material lists.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration piping layout and installation best practices.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, stooping, reaching, and climbing to access HVAC components.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 100 lbs. as needed.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and varied working environments.
