Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger accounts, assisting with monthly and year-end closings, preparing internal financial and job costing reports, billings, receivables, reconciliation of bank accounts, and performing general accounting duties. The Staff Accountant (SA) reports directly to the Senior Accountant.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Records journal entries and maintains accurate general ledger accounts for three operating companies and one real estate holding company.
Regularly reconciles general ledger accounts to identify and correct any discrepancies or errors.
Assists in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements for each business.
Prepares internal financial reports, including job cost summaries and work in process (WIP) schedules.
Monitors project budgets to actual costs to ensure alignment with estimates.
Prepares weekly job cost reports for Operations Managers and Superintendents.
Collaborates with Project Managers to analyze reasons for job cost variances and assists with planning for response.
Responsible for monthly project billings.
Monitors accounts receivable and follows up on outstanding balances.
Reviews cash accounts daily and performs monthly bank reconciliations to maintain accurate cash balances.
Tracks contract amounts, change orders, and retainages to maintain accurate information in general ledger and job costing subsidiary ledger.
Responsible for monthly project billings.

Ensures timely billing of and collection of retainages.
Manages, monitors, and updates proscribed billing process for all customers.
Maintains customer records with current billing contact information.
Prepares and analyzes accounts receivable aging report for monthly review with Senior Accountant.
Ensures all customers accounts are current and collects on past due accounts.
Assists with annual audit preparation and documentation.
Performs appropriate data collection for the preparation of federal, state, and local agency reports and tax returns.
Responds to requests for information from external accounting firm for annual financial review and tax return preparation.
Prepares management reports as directed.
Performs other project-based and analytical duties as directed.

Desired Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a full-time accounting role
Competency in technology for accounting and business applications is required
Construction and/or manufacturing industry experience is a plus
