EKU Course - Plan Reading
A study of the understanding how to read and interpret by plan view and elevation drawings.
Student Learning Outcomes:
To create a learning environment whereby a student becomes able to:
A. Understand and interpret information depicted on drawings and specifications for a construction project of moderate complexity using a designated case study project known as the BTC.
B. Identify work items from drawings and specifications according to a standard bid breakdown.
C. Be able to visualize drawing information in 5 of the major CSI Divisions (3,5,9,15,16).
Course will be taught by Dr. Chengyi (Charlie) Zhang
Chengyi Zhang is currently Assistant Professor of Construction Management at Eastern Kentucky University. He has been with the faculty of EKU since 2014. He has over 6 years of civil engineering and construction project management experience. Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a certified Construction Documentation Technologist, certified Environmental and Erosion Control Specialist, and he has USACE Certificate of construction Quality Control for Contractors. His area of expertise covers automated progress control in construction management, data fusion for improving as-built visualization and construction management, scan to BIM for visualization and facility management, and Integration of remote sensing technology and nondestructive testing for structure inspection and quality assessment. At EKU, Dr. Zhang teaches Construction Contracts, Construction Graphics, Project Organizations and Supervision, as well as Construction Economy. Dr. Zhang is an active member of several professional societies including ASC, CMAA, ASCE, and CSI.
